Who is your target audience?
Is it children? Teenagers? Young adults? Or is it an older audience?
This is an important question to think about before you dive into creating marketing strategies and advertisements.
For a younger audience of children, you’re going to want to use colorful ads and packaging to your advantage. It’s the 21st century, and it seems as though nearly all elementary schoolers own smartphones now! Children love mobile games and honestly, anything colorful and eye-catching.
For a different approach, try shifting the focus to the children’s parents. Explain why they need the product or service you’re promoting for their child. Emphasize the benefits they’ll have with the product, as well as the disadvantages they’ll face without it.
Teenagers are a major group for any market these days. As the next generation, teenagers and young adults hold the power to make or break a business. While you could use old-fashioned paper ads, using social media and the internet will be way more effective for advertising your products or services to teenagers, especially social media.
Platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat have been extremely popular among teenagers recently, and they will spend hours and hours on these apps alone. (I speak from experience...) You want your audience to be comfortable and familiarize themselves with you, so don’t be too formal. (Remember, these are teenagers online for entertainment, not to be bombarded with boring ads!)
Record and post a TikTok!
I spend a lot of my time on TikTok, and I have seen countless advertisement videos, but in a discreet way. These business’ accounts are always on top of the latest trends, whether it be a dance, an audio, or just a funny meme. Getting even one of your TikTok videos to “blow up” and land on the ‘For You Page’ will allow you to reach hundreds of thousands of people - maybe even a million - and will surely be advantageous for your brand.
2. Create an Instagram account for your business and promote simple, eye-catching ads!
Instagram is a must for businesses geared towards a teenage audience. I will be posting a separate blog dedicated to business accounts on social media, but for now, what’s important is that you know to make an account and utilize it well. By creating an attractive profile with Instagram-worthy posts, you’ll be able to garner an audience.
3. DM small or big influencers on Instagram to help share and spread your business!
No matter if it’s an influencer or even just your group of friends, sharing is key to promoting a business on social media.
Message as many people as you can, asking them to share your profile or even help advertise your product(s) if they are willing to do so! One share goes a long way.
While an online marketing technique would be beneficiary for a younger audience, that may not always be the case for an older audience. For an older crowd, you may want to shift towards the more traditional, paper way.
Many people still read newspapers and magazines, so it would be advantageous to have an advertisement in there. But who’s to say that everything has to be on paper? For a bit more of a modern twist, you can always try to insert an ad on online news articles and/or pages. Facebook, which many older generations use, also has advertisements for businesses that you can make good use of.
Depending on your target audience, the way that you advertise your product, business, or service may change. However, as we are in the digital and technological age, it would be difficult to avoid online platforms to reach your audience, no matter which group it may be.
So, who is my target audience, you ask?
Simply put...you!
