Short & Sweet

One rule of thumb to live by is to keep everything short and sweet. Just like your favorite candy or dessert.

Simple is best.

Processing fluency is defined as “a cognitive bias in which our opinion of something is influenced by how easily our brain processes it and understands it”.

According to various studies, information that is presented in an accessible manner is perceived to be easy to understand and more believable than less accessible information.

In fact, concise displays have been proven to be more convincing and trustworthy to users over complex pages. The less time that is required to process information, the more positive the user experience.

The way that information is presented changes the way we perceive it in our minds, which is exactly why keeping things short and simple is important.

No one wants to read essays upon essays when looking at your social media profile, your advertisement, or even your website! People that click on a website will process the overall aesthetic appeal of the website in half a second, so it is vital to leave a positive first impression.

Taking my own advice, this is the end of today’s post - straight to the point while keeping it simple. While future posts will be much longer for the sake of explaining things clearly and in a detailed manner, it’s important to keep this post in mind when applying these cognitive tips and tricks later on.

Keep it short and sweet.
